The Gauntlet was opened in 1964 after being commissioned by the brewers Phipps of Northampton, later taken over by Watneys.
The site, part of a former football ground, was purchased in order to provide a new shopping precinct and pub which would serve the new housing estates being built during the 1950s & 1960s.
